FDA Suspends Milk Testing Program Amid Staff Cuts
United States: FDA has announced suspension of its quality control program testing milk and dairy products due to staff reduction in the food safety and nutrition division.
An internal email from the FDA’s Division of Dairy Safety indicated that the proficiency testing program for Grade “A” raw milk and finished products would stop operating beginning Monday, as reported by The Hills.
Mass Layoffs Drive Program Shutdown
The suspension began following the Trump administration’s firing of thousands of Department of Health and Human Services workers who were then terminated from their positions at the FDA.
The health department experienced job reductions except for those working in food and drug safety inspection roles, according to HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The FDA continues hiring contractors as replacements for workers who were recently terminated.

Testing for Bird Flu, Parasites Also Discontinued
The FDA took steps this month to halt its programs, which monitored accurate tests for bird flu in milk and cheese, along with parasite screening for various food items such as Cyclospora, as reported by The Hills.
The Trump administration submitted to Congress a budget proposal which reduces healthcare department spending by billions.
