United States: This comes within a day after the Massachusetts health officials reported three new human cases of West Nile virus; the risk level for the mosquito-borne disease is now high in some of the cities/towns in Massachusetts.
As reported by the 10WJAR, those cities and the towns include Dartmouth, Acushnet and the New Bedford. “It can be a problematic, West Nile Virus with the older people or with underlying medical conditions said the director of Public Health in the Dartmouth Chris Michaud.
As for the three new human cases of this particular virus health leaders said all the three individuals are in their 60’s and one of them was a woman who was exposed in the southern Bristol County.
Rhode Island which also announces it’s first human EEE case and an additional probable human West Nile Virus case on the Wednesday.Experts caution residents to be aware of the peak mosquito hours and use bug repellent drain standing water and wear clothing to cover skin.
For the owners of the Mosquito mike in the Fall River he said it’s the business’ busiest September ever.
“With EEE and everything going on with that it obviously scares people,” said Mosquito Mike owner Mike Reynolds.
Mosquito Mike uses a natural or chemical solution to spray local residential lawns.
‘People want to be able to go in their back yard and not have to worry about it,’ he said. ‘Some of the towns do aerial spraying but that doesn’t necessarily cover your yard so it’s really nice to not have to worry about it,’ said Reynolds.
