In June 2023, doctors implanted cells equivalent to around 1.5 million insulin-producing cells in a patient’s abdominal muscles. The entire community of cells had to be intentionally derived from her own stem cells.
It took two and a half months, and the woman did not have to inject insulin anymore – a lifelong, highly Stable type of diabetes was stabilized and reversed, sciencealert.com reported.

As per the reports, if this one patient continues to produce insulin naturally in the years to come, she will be declared cured – the first instance of this kind in all the scientific journals.

Chinese researchers are already discussing how to expand their trial to enroll new patients.
